I hope you are enjoying this new chapter in the life of our plaid protagonist!
As many of you have heard me say before I'm a big fan of The Shadow radio show that ran from the late 1930's through early 1950's. Blue Coal was one of the most memorable sponsors of the old-time radio show. "Blue Coal" was the term for a once-popular, specific, trademarked brand of anthracite, mined by the Glen Alden Coal Company in Pennsylvania, and sprayed with a blue dye at the mine before shipping to its Northeastern U.S.A. markets to distinguish it from its competitors. Click below to listen to a sample of one of their old radio commercials:

Also, please enjoy the work-in-progress snapshot below as I was inking panel 2.

WUH OH! Things ain’t lookin’ good for the Checkered Man! Yeesh!
Awesome, Denver. LOVE the middle panel.
Awesome. Love the 2nd & 3rd panel. You fit a lot in just 3 panels. Amazing the way you did that. I also love the idea you listen to old The Shadow radio show while you work. It must help inspire the mood of your strip. Great stuff as always.
Who strikes fear into the hearts of men? Not the Checkered Man, I guess. Great job, Denver. I listen to the Shadow sometimes on AM (though the girlfriend and I are more disposed to liking Johnny Dollar).
I wonder how many toxins were added to Blue Coal when they sprayed it with the dye? Probably doesn’t matter since we’re talking about coal.
“Will Joey the Sloth warn our hero? What is this mysterious cadre of criminals? WHERE IS THE BARTENDER?? Tune in next week to find out! Same Checkered Man time, same Checkered Man channel!”
Oooo… The plot thickens. Looks like we’re in for some good action here (or at least some really funny action)!
Is the Sloth the secret mastermind behind this insidious gathering of fiends? We’ll find out!
